Cornucopia

Bull's horn, decorated with metal

Inventory No. 13 кв/32 мем

Ivan Franko's study has a cornucopia, which stands on a table near the window – a bronze statue of a muse holding a bull's horn with her lifted right hand.

It is a gift from the famous opera singer Solomiia Krushelnytska for the 25th anniversary of Ivan Franko's literary and social activities. The singer was in Warsaw at the time and could not greet the jubilee man in person. She sent the gift by post and asked ethnographer Volodymyr Hnatiuk, Ivan Franko's friend, to gift it during the celebration.

We know it from memoirs that the cornucopia stood on Franko's desk or on a table in the entry hall. When guests or acquaintances came to Franko's place and he was not home, they left their notes inside the horn.
